KP Prepares for Expansion: 360km Peshawar DI Khan highway project Open for Private Investment

PESHAWAR — The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (KP-HA) has launched a massive infrastructure initiative to connect the province’s southern districts with major urban hubs through the newly announced Peshawar DI Khan highway project.

The authority is officially inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from national and international engineering firms to construct this 360-kilometer corridor. Officials will execute the Peshawar DI Khan highway project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) basis. The strategic route will link directly to the M-1 Motorway, running primarily along the eastern and western alignments of the existing Indus Highway (N-55).

Project Blueprint: Strategic Division into 8 Sections

To streamline development and accelerate construction, KP-HA has split the 360km Peshawar DI Khan highway project into eight distinct operational sections:

  • Peshawar to Darra Adam Khel: 45 km
  • Darra Adam Khel to Kohat: 18 km
  • Kohat to Hangu: 57 km
  • Hangu to Banda Daud Shah: 36 km
  • Banda Daud Shah to Sur Dag: 35 km
  • Sur Dag to Bannu: 35 km
  • Bannu to Park: 94 km
  • Park to Dera Ismail Khan: 40 km

Cutting-Edge Twin Tunnels to Pierce Mountain Ranges

To minimize travel time and bypass treacherous mountainous terrain, engineers will integrate advanced dual-tunnel technology into key sections of the route. The Peshawar DI Khan highway project features two major engineering feats designed to tackle rugged geography:

Darra Adam Khel to Kohat Section: Construction of a 5.62 km modern twin tunnel.

Banda Daud Shah to Sur Dag Section: Construction of a 1.42 km twin tunnel.

Prequalification Criteria for Bidders

KPHA encourages interested companies, joint ventures, and consortia to obtain the prequalification documents to participate in the competitive bidding process for the Peshawar DI Khan highway project.

The authority has set a non-refundable documentation fee of PKR 5,000 per section. Once completed, this infrastructure corridor promises to boost regional trade, generate employment opportunities, and dramatically improve connectivity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
