KP Police Mid-Year Report Reveals Major Anti-Terror Success, Rising Casualties

PESHAWAR—The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police Department has compiled its comprehensive mid-year performance report. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed chaired a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office in Peshawar to review the findings.

The detailed briefing focused on overall law and order, counter-terrorism achievements, and the province-wide crackdown on crime over the past six months.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted 2,004 intelligence-based operations during this six-month period. These operations successfully foiled multiple large-scale terrorist plots before execution. According to the KP Police mid-year report, law enforcement agencies arrested 504 suspected terrorists. This number includes 14 high-profile commanders who carried bounties on their heads.

Security forces also killed 821 terrorists during intense armed encounters. The briefing revealed that heavily armed groups launched 294 attacks against police targets. However, the front-line force successfully repelled 161 of these assaults. Furthermore, security units neutralized 341 drone attacks using advanced anti-drone technology. This defense was supported by Pakistan’s first police UAV division, which was launched in March to neutralize and analyze hostile drones.

Severe Casualties on the Front Line

The fight against militancy exacted a heavy toll on law enforcement personnel. The KP Police mid-year report confirms that 122 police officers and personnel embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. Additionally, 175 officers sustained injuries during various counter-terrorism operations and active combat situations.

The report highlighted several specific successful actions across different districts. In Mardan, the CTD killed one terrorist and used forensic cellular data analysis to capture three others. These suspects were actively planning a bomb attack on an Imambargah in Islamabad. In Peshawar, police eliminated two target killers responsible for the martyrdom of Constable Sanaullah. Meanwhile, operations in Shangla neutralized Commander Noor Islam, also known as Khog Badshah, alongside a suicide bomber.

Large-Scale Weapon and Drug Seizures

The provincial police launched an aggressive crackdown against narcotics smuggling and illegal weapon possession. Law enforcement registered 10,197 First Information Reports (FIRs) under the Narcotics Act. They arrested 10,718 suspects and seized over 9,158 kilograms of illegal substances. This massive haul included 7,577 kilograms of hashish, 385 kilograms of opium, 246 kilograms of heroin, and 949 kilograms of ice (methamphetamine).

Weapon recovery operations led to 21,903 registered cases and 21,355 arrests. Officers confiscated an immense stockpile of firearms and explosive materials:

  • 25,805 pistols and 2,994 shotguns
  • 1,821 Kalashnikovs and 1,457 rifles
  • 93 hand grenades and 1,771 kilograms of explosives
  • 5,117 detonators and 1,215 sticks of dynamite

National Action Plan Enforcement

Under the National Action Plan, the KP Police executed 2,742 search and strike operations. These combing actions led to the arrest of 10,540 suspects. Officers inspected 39,171 houses and 14,098 hotels, filing hundreds of cases for registration violations. Security teams also conducted snap-checking at 39,106 locations, detaining 15,003 suspicious individuals.
