PESHAWAR-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit that using water as a tool for political pressure is unacceptable and violates international agreements.
Addressing the SCO Heads of State Summit in Bishkek, the Prime Minister said water guarantees life in the region and secures the future of coming generations. “Using water for political purposes or as a weapon of coercion is not acceptable,” Shehbaz Sharif stated.

He added that global agreements must be implemented in both letter and spirit. In his Shehbaz Sharif SCO summit speech, the Prime Minister said the SCO serves as a key platform for global peace and stability. He noted that the organization’s 25th anniversary marks an important milestone and reaffirmed that Pakistan remains an active and responsible member.
Shehbaz Sharif warned that the world faces rising geopolitical tensions. He said Pakistan believes in the peaceful resolution of disputes and upholds international law. Pakistan remains committed to lasting regional peace, he added.

The prime minister stressed that South Asia cannot realize its full potential without sustainable peace. He also spoke on Afghanistan, saying Pakistan wants a peaceful, stable, and prosperous neighbor. “We will not allow terrorists to use Afghan soil against Pakistan,” he said.
On Palestine, Shehbaz Sharif said the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and the West Bank has caused unimaginable suffering. He highlighted Pakistan’s losses in the war against terrorism, stating the country suffered economic damage exceeding $150 billion.
The Prime Minister added that regional cooperation under the SCO framework is essential to address shared challenges, including water security, terrorism, and economic stability.
