Peshawar – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has urged the Peshawar High Court to establish a judicial commission on May 9 incidents, stressing the need for a transparent investigation.
The provincial government has repeatedly reminded the court but has yet to receive a response.Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Faisal Utmankhel said the government had formally sent two letters requesting the formation of the judicial commission on May 9 incidents.
He added that the cabinet had approved the commission’s establishment on 27 June 2024 to ensure accountability.“The first letter was rejected because it did not come from the competent authority. The government then sent another letter, but the high court has not replied,” Utmankhel stated. He emphasized that the government remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring a fair inquiry under the West Pakistan Commission of Inquiry Ordinance 1969.“A transparent investigation is necessary.
The provincial government wants the judicial commission on May 9 incidents to expose all facts. If the high court responds, we will decide the next course of action. If there is no response, the cabinet will take the matter forward,” he said. Utmankhel further stated that the government had also sought a judicial inquiry into the Bannu incident and sent letters to the high court regarding both cases.
He expressed disappointment that several months had passed without any official response from the court. He stressed that the government would continue pushing for the commission’s formation, as an independent investigation was necessary to ensure justice. He added that if the high court does not respond, the cabinet will determine the next legal steps.
