PM Sharif Orders Shift to Electric Motorcycles for Government Use

PESHAWAR – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed government departments to purchase only electric motorcycles and buses for future official use. This decision serves as a primary step in a phased transition toward energy security in Pakistan.

During a high-level energy meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister emphasized that the transport sector must shift to electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce reliance on imported fuels.

The Prime Minister issued immediate orders to accelerate the development of strategic crude oil reserves. He stressed that these reserves are essential to handle potential national emergencies. Sharif identified the energy sector as the “key pillar” of national planning. Consequently, he instructed officials to ensure that the country remains prepared for any regional shifts that might impact fuel supplies.

Boosting Solar Power and Battery Storage

To maximize the benefits of solar energy, the government is focusing on battery storage technology. Sharif directed the relevant authorities to simplify the availability of battery storage systems. Furthermore, he encouraged the local manufacturing of high-quality batteries.

The meeting briefing revealed several key developments:

  • The National Coordination and Management Council (NCMC) monitors the situation daily.
  • Authorities are currently preparing a PC-1 for two pilot projects involving grid-level battery storage.
  • The government is actively encouraging domestic solar users to adopt battery storage solutions.

Diplomatic Ties and Space Exploration

Beyond energy, the Prime Minister engaged in significant diplomatic activity. He met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaideng, reaffirming that Pakistan takes immense pride in its strategic partnership with China. Sharif vowed to maintain close cooperation with Chinese leadership to strengthen these bilateral ties.

In a symbolic move for national progress, the Prime Minister also met with two Pakistani astronauts, Khurram Dawood and Zeeshan Ali. He described their upcoming space research mission as a “major milestone” for the country. Sharif remarked that the collaboration between Pakistan and China in space exploration proves that their friendship is now reaching for the stars.

Current Energy and Food Security Status

Briefing officials confirmed that petroleum stocks remain sufficient across the country. Additionally, domestic oil and gas production is increasing due to the efforts of local companies. The Prime Minister noted that timely government interventions have successfully shielded the nation from a major energy crisis, ensuring that both energy and food security remain stable for the public.

Ultimately, these directives aim to modernize the national infrastructure. By prioritizing energy security in Pakistan through EVs and strategic reserves, the administration seeks to build a more resilient and self-reliant economy.
