Peshawar Journalists Trained in Green Journalism to Combat Climate Change

PESHAWAR: Media professionals attended a capacity-building workshop on climate change and green journalism in Peshawar on Saturday. This session equipped reporters with essential tools to cover environmental challenges effectively.

The Institute for Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA) organized the training alongside the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). Journalists from multiple outlets participated in the event. During the sessions, they focused on climate science, policy communication, and investigative techniques.

Focus on Climate Science and Policy

Lead trainers Dr. Asif Khan and Dr. Faizullah Jan explained the rising threats of global warming. Specifically, they discussed greenhouse gas emissions and the human impact on the ecosystem. Additionally, the workshop covered several critical areas:

  • Global Climate Agreements: Trainers explained international treaties and local governance.
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Experts linked environmental reporting to global targets.
  • Data-Driven Journalism: Reporters practiced using facts to counter misinformation.

Media’s Role in Advocacy

Furthermore, Dr. Asif Khan emphasized that journalists shape public opinion. He noted that reporters promote eco-friendly mindsets through their work. Similarly, Dr. Faizullah Jan stressed that evidence-based reporting is now a necessity for Pakistan.

Consequently, the workshop concluded with a strong commitment from participants. They vowed to prioritize responsible environmental narratives to foster public awareness and climate resilience across the province
