PESHAWAR – Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, officially launched the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026 today during a high-level review meeting. While presiding over the session, the chief minister emphasized a “zero-tolerance” policy regarding administrative delays.

He directed the immediate release of all necessary funds to ensure that provincial and district teams execute the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026 with precision to protect both infrastructure and human lives.

Strict Timelines for Disaster Mitigation

To ensure maximum safety, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi set a firm deadline of June 15 for all departments to complete their pre-monsoon formalities. This phase includes the mapping of sensitive areas, specialized training, and full-scale mock exercises.

In addition to these timelines, the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026 mandates the following actions:

  • Constant Vigilance: District Emergency Operation Centers (DEOCs) must now remain active 24/7.
  • Real-time Data: Technical teams will track glacial lakes and river levels daily to provide early warnings.
  • Asset Readiness: Field officers must verify that all rescue boats and heavy machinery are 100% operational by mid-June.

Meanwhile, a massive sanitation operation is currently supporting the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026. During the briefing, officials confirmed several key achievements:

  • Drainage Progress: Workers have already cleared 4,099 out of 4,802 storm-water drains.
  • Desilting Efforts: The workforce has successfully desilted 598 km of the 635 km drainage network.
  • Encroachment Removal: Authorities have demolished 524 illegal structures on waterways, and they continue to pursue the remaining 270.

“Furthermore, the administration must complete all infrastructure maintenance by May 30 to prevent urban flooding,” the Chief Minister directed.

Relief and Medical Preparedness

Furthermore, the Monsoon Contingency Plan 2026 prioritizes the pre-positioning of essential relief goods. Specifically, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) will distribute tents, blankets, and hygiene kits based on the Vulnerability Index of each district.

Simultaneously, the Health Department is stocking essential medical supplies, such as:

  • Anti-snake venom and ORS.
  • IV fluids and emergency medicines.
  • First-response kits for field staff.
