CHARSADDA – The District Public Prosecutor of Charsadda has formally constituted a high-level, three-member prosecution team to oversee the investigation into the targeted killing of eminent religious scholar Sheikh-ul-Hadith Maulana Muhammad Idris.
According to the official notification, the legal team comprises Senior Public Prosecutor Muhammad Irshad, Law Officer Sikandar Zaman, and Assistant Public Prosecutor Shahid Adil. The team will supervise the legal proceedings related to FIR No. 36, registered at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station in Mardan.

The Prosecution’s Mandate
The newly formed team carries a strict mandate to ensure a transparent and rigorous legal pursuit of the case. The notification directs the members to:
- Maintain seamless coordination with the police investigation teams.
- Submit daily progress reports to the Prosecutor’s Office.
- Ensure that all legal technicalities are addressed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Details of the Assassination
Maulana Muhammad Idris, one of Pakistan’s most respected religious scholars, was martyred in a late-morning ambush in the Utmanzai area. The scholar was en route to Darul Uloom Utmanzai to deliver a lecture on Dora-e-Hadith when unidentified assailants opened fire on his vehicle.

While the Maulana was rushed to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, authorities confirmed he succumbed to his injuries before arrival. The attack also left his two security guards critically wounded.

The news of the assassination sparked immediate outrage across the district. Thousands of grief-stricken followers gathered at the DHQ hospital, while protesters took to the streets to demand the immediate arrest of the killers.
Demonstrators blocked the Tangi Road, leading to massive traffic jams as protesters marched from Turangzai toward Charsadda. The atmosphere remains tense as local leaders call for a swift and transparent investigation into what many describe as a calculated attack on a pillar of the religious community.
