Exercising powers under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife and Biodiversity Act 2015, the department aims to maintain ecological balance while managing bird populations sustainably.

Regulated Hunting Schedule for 2025-26
According to the official notification, the government permits the hunting of the Russian Dove only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. This permission applies exclusively to individuals holding a valid Small Game Shooting License. The regulations take effect immediately and will remain operational until May 31, 2026.
The department clarified that authorities will initiate immediate legal action against anyone hunting outside the designated days.

Strict Bag Limits and Penalties
To prevent over-hunting, the wildlife department has established clear boundaries for hunters:
- Daily Limit: Hunters may bag a maximum of eight (8) birds per day.
- Fines: Violators will face a fine of 5,000 PKR for every bird killed beyond the legal limit, in addition to further legal prosecution.
- Time Constraints: The government strictly prohibits hunting before sunrise and after sunset.
Wildlife teams will continuously monitor bird populations across the province. The department reserves the right to impose an immediate ban on hunting if population levels show signs of critical decline.

Department spokesperson Latif-ur-Rehman stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is implementing serious measures for environmental protection. These include forest expansion, wildlife habitat preservation, and comprehensive strategies to combat climate change.
