PESHAWAR – In a vibrant effort to connect the youth with their cultural roots, the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) Education Committee organized a comprehensive one-day historical study tour for the children and families of its members.
The tour, held in collaboration with Director General of Archaeology Dr. Abdul Samad, saw over 300 children visit the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Peshawar Museum, the ancient Gor Khatri complex, and the architectural marvel, Sethi House.
A Journey Through Ancient Civilizations
The excursion kicked off at the Peshawar Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of Buddhist Gandhara art. Journalists and their families showed keen interest in the ancient artifacts, spanning from:
- Intricate Buddha statues and religious relics.
- Antique weaponry and domestic tools from various eras.
- Rare historical coins and craftsmanship.
Archaeology department officials provided detailed briefings, offering the students a deep dive into the historical significance of the Gandhara civilization and Peshawar’s role as a crossroad of empires.
Capturing Memories at Gor Khatri and Sethi House
The delegation, led by PPC President M. Riaz, General Secretary Alamgir Khan, and Education Committee Chairman Zia-ul-Haq, then moved to the historic Tehsil Gor Khatri. The children were fascinated by the archaeological excavations and the historical layers of the city visible at the site.
The excitement reached its peak at Sethi House, famous for its exquisite wood carvings and traditional Bukhara-style architecture. Families were seen capturing the “memorable moments” on their mobile phones, creating video reels and photographs against the backdrop of the stunning 19th-century craftsmanship.
“Such tours are essential for the mental and cultural growth of our children. Seeing our history firsthand is far more impactful than reading it in textbooks,” remarked a senior journalist during the visit.
The day concluded with a formal luncheon and refreshments for the children and their families. PPC Vice President and Education Committee Chairman Zia-ul-Haq expressed his profound gratitude to Dr. Abdul Samad and his team for their seamless coordination and hospitality.
Prominent senior journalists including Shamim Shahid and Irshad Maidani, along with Education Committee members Shakeel Farman, Tayyab Usman Awan, and Shazia Nisar, were also in attendance, praising the initiative for fostering a sense of community among the press corps.
