The federal government has decided to launch a 100-megawatt solar energy project in Gilgit-Baltistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting on the project where relevant officials provided a detailed briefing on its current status and progress.
Project Details and Timeline
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on two components of the project. An 18-megawatt solar energy scheme for government buildings in Gilgit-Baltistan is underway and will be completed by December 2026. Work is also in progress on an 82-megawatt solar scheme for residential areas in Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas, and Khaplu.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to accelerate work on the project and complete it at the earliest. He also ordered independent third-party validation across all phases of the project to ensure transparency.
Federal Government to Bear All Costs
The Prime Minister confirmed that the federal government will bear all expenses of the 100-megawatt solar project for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to bringing affordable and reliable energy to the region.
