PESHAWAR—The Government of Pakistan places the federal capital under an unprecedented security blanket as the city prepares to host a high-stakes diplomatic summit.
Following an announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding the arrival of a high-level American delegation this Monday, authorities implement a curfew-like lockdown across strategic zones to facilitate the second round of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Trump Claims Progress in Iran Talks; Tehran Issues a Sharp Denial
State Takeover of Major Infrastructure
The government officially requisitions the Marriott Hotel Islamabad for the visiting dignitaries. On Sunday afternoon, the hotel administration directed all private guests to vacate the premises immediately to hand over control to the state. The Marriott general manager confirms in an official notice that the government acquired the entire hotel for an important event starting Sunday. Simultaneously, the Serena Hotel—which hosted the first round of talks—ceases all guest reservations for the duration of the summit, underscoring the scale of the Islamabad Security Lockdown and US-Iran Talks.
The security apparatus extends strict controls to residential areas, particularly those near Noor Khan Airbase. Residents in surrounding housing societies report a lockdown environment where authorities order citizens to remain indoors and close all local markets.
Significant contingents of police and military personnel now occupy street corners and residential lanes to maintain order. Furthermore, International Islamic University Islamabad moves all classes online from April 20 to April 24 to clear the streets of student traffic.
Total Transport Suspension
The district administrations of Nowshera, Peshawar, and other neighboring regions effectively sever commercial links to the capital. All large commercial vehicles, including Mazdas and public service transport, face a total ban on entering Islamabad.
Security forces prevent any commercial transit from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into Punjab via the Attock Bridge. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioners of both Rawalpindi and Islamabad suspend all public and goods transport until further notice to ensure a clear path for diplomatic convoys.
Grand Combing Operations
On the orders of the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, law enforcement agencies conduct grand-combing search operations across the capital. These operations utilize additional police reinforcements from Punjab to fortify city sectors. The Islamabad Traffic Police establishes specialized checkpoints at every entry and exit point, with senior officers present in the field to supervise the rigorous checking process. Patrolling units remain on high alert to ensure that the Islamabad Security Lockdown and US-Iran talks proceed without domestic interference.
US-Iran Negotiations in Islamabad Signal Potential Regional De-escalation
While the US delegation arrives today, the international community focuses entirely on Islamabad as the city acts as the epicenter of global diplomacy. Although Iran has yet to issue a formal statement regarding this specific round, the intensity of the security measures signals the gravity of the impending dialogue. Residents must adopt alternative routes and cooperate with security personnel as the city manages this high-level international event.
