Peshawar High Court

PESHAWAR—Pakistan Post recruitments have been halted as the Peshawar High Court (PHC) suspended the government’s decision to conduct re-examinations for recently hired employees.

The court also issued notices to the Ministry of Communications and Pakistan Post, directing them to submit their responses in the next hearing.

A bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Fazal Subhan heard the petitions filed by employees recruited in 2022 and 2023. The petitioners’ counsel, Ashfaq Dawoodzai, argued that his clients were hired through a structured process, including written tests and interviews, and were appointed on merit. He stated that thousands of candidates across Pakistan had secured jobs in Pakistan Post after successfully meeting the official selection criteria.

The government’s counsel informed the court that concerns over irregularities in the hiring process led to the formation of an inquiry committee on the prime minister’s directive. The inquiry report on Pakistan Post recruitments highlighted several procedural violations, leading the committee to declare the hiring process unlawful. Based on its findings, the committee recommended that all appointed candidates undergo fresh testing to ensure transparency.

Following these recommendations, the prime minister instructed all regional offices to conduct re-examinations. However, the petitioners challenged the committee’s findings and the prime minister’s decision, asserting that their appointments followed legal protocols and should not be subjected to further scrutiny.

Court’s ruling

After reviewing the arguments, the court suspended the notification for re-examinations related to Pakistan Post recruitments. It also ordered the Ministry of Communications and Pakistan Post to submit detailed responses before the next hearing. The case will continue as the court evaluates the legality of the previous hiring process and the necessity of fresh examinations.
