KP Declares Monsoon Emergency: Here Are the 11 Districts Under High Alert

PESHAWAR—The provincial government has officially initiated its disaster management protocols in anticipation of extreme weather. Following severe weather warnings, authorities have placed 11 districts on high alert due to extreme vulnerabilities to flash floods, landslides, and overflowing river systems.

Climate Change Spikes Disaster Risks

Rapidly shifting climate patterns have significantly increased the frequency of natural disasters across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Met departments warn that unexpected heavy downpours, combined with intense summer heat, could trigger severe river flooding, catastrophic landslides, and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs).

To counter this immediate threat, the KP administration has activated its Monsoon Emergency Plan across all 37 districts of the province. Following a thorough risk assessment, disaster management teams have singled out 11 highly sensitive districts where the risk of flash floods and glacial lake collapses remains dangerously elevated.

Emergency Plans Updated and Linked

Government departments are working around the clock to minimize potential casualties. Local emergency plans have been updated for all vulnerable sites and successfully integrated into the central provincial monitoring system.
