PESHAWAR – The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking a major leap toward technological modernization. Specifically, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced the establishment of a dedicated artificial intelligence authority in KP to drive research, foster innovation, and unlock modern digital avenues for the province’s youth.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi shared this vision during a special digital media meet-up and interactive session focused on university rankings. He emphasized that the provincial government remains committed to promoting advanced technologies and building systems aligned with future global demands.

To ensure these initiatives deliver rapid results, CM Sohail Afridi issued several key directives:
- Accelerate Infrastructure: First, executing departments must immediately complete and activate all under-construction Jawan Centers across the province.
- Expand Support Ecosystems: Next, the state will expand its current mentorship programs, career guidance counseling, startup incubators, and sports patronage to polish local talent.
- Economic Empowerment: Finally, the government will continue providing interest-free loans to young entrepreneurs under the Ehsaas Nojawan Program, alongside utilizing dedicated, ring-fenced funds to empower women and religious minorities economically.
Addressing Border Trade Disruption in Merged Districts
While discussing regional economic growth, the chief minister also highlighted the critical challenges facing the border areas. He noted that the economy and commercial survival of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the merged tribal districts, rely heavily on cross-border trade.
Unfortunately, the frequent closure of key border crossing points has subjected local populations to severe financial hardships. The chief minister reiterated that alongside fostering a digital future through the Artificial Intelligence Authority in KP, stabilizing traditional trade routes remains a top priority to restore the province’s economic health.
