PESHAWAR — A powerful storm has crippled Peshawar’s power grid, tripping more than 200 feeders and plunging large parts of the city into darkness. Heavy rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms battered the city’s electricity transmission network on Monday.
The disruption knocked out power supply across multiple neighborhoods. Residents faced severe hardship as a result.
The storm struck feeders connected to nearly 12 grid stations across Peshawar. More than 200 feeders tripped during the extreme weather, plunging major sections of the city into darkness.

The widespread failure has once again exposed the fragility of Peshawar’s power grid. Officials say the aging transmission infrastructure failed to withstand the pressure of the weather system.
Restoration work began once the storm’s intensity eased. However, power remained cut in numerous areas for hours afterward.
According to officials, crews have already restored power to more than 100 feeders. Meanwhile, 98 feeders remained offline late into the night due to various faults. Power supply in the affected areas has not yet been fully restored.

The spokesperson added that power would be restored to other areas as soon as the situation returns to normal.
