PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa federal funds totaled Rs3.4867 trillion between 2021 and 2025, according to official figures tabled in the provincial assembly this week.
The document breaks down five years of transfers from the federal government to the province, covering both the National Finance Commission (NFC) award and War on Terror compensation.

Of the total Khyber Pakhtunkhwa federal funds disbursed during this period, the NFC award accounted for Rs3,114.45 billion. War on Terror funds contributed an additional Rs374.224 billion to the province over the same five years.
The data shows fiscal year 2024-25 marked the highest single-year transfer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa federal funds to date. The province received Rs1,046.875 billion from the federal government that year alone, including Rs112.2296 billion specifically allocated under the War on Terror head.
The disclosure came after MPA Ahmad Karim Kundi raised a point of order over inconsistencies in the figures. Kundi said the white paper presented to the assembly showed a discrepancy of Rs60 billion compared to other official records.

He demanded clarity from the provincial government, asking directly whether the white paper itself was inaccurate or whether the budget figures were the source of the error.
Provincial Finance Minister Aftab Alam responded to the objection on the floor of the assembly. He said complete answers had already been provided regarding the funds received by the province.
Alam added that variations between the amounts owed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the amounts actually disbursed exist due to several factors, without elaborating further on the specific causes.
The exchange has drawn renewed attention to how federal resources are allocated and tracked at the provincial level, particularly as opposition lawmakers continue to press for greater transparency in fiscal reporting.
