PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police has officially approved the Special Combat Unit Rules and Regulations 2026. This new legal framework will govern a highly specialized force designed to launch decisive operations against terrorists.
According to KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, recruitment will follow incredibly strict standards. The department will select only 400 elite personnel for this force. Candidates must first pass demanding medical, psychological, and physical endurance tests.
An officer holding the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) will command the unit. This commander will report directly to the Additional IG Elite Force.

An International Operational Model
The operational structure of the new force aligns with international standards. The unit will deploy small companies of 45 personnel to the front lines of the province’s most sensitive regions. Each deployment will last for a strict 90-day period. During these missions, the local District Police Officer (DPO) or Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) commander will jointly lead field operations with the unit.
Following this grueling 90-day duty, the personnel will undergo a mandatory rotation. The department will send them to the Elite Police Training Center in Nowshera for 30 days. This period allows operators to sharpen their combat skills and share vital field experiences with new cadets.

Inside the Rigorous 5-Month Commando Training
The Special Combat Unit Rules and Regulations 2026 also outline a grueling 20-week (5-month) training program at the Nowshera center. The course builds elite skills through a structured, month-by-month timeline:
- Month 1: Focuses on foundational stamina through running, push-ups, and long marches.
- Month 2: Builds physical strength using intense weight training and obstacle courses.
- Month 3: Introduces close-quarters firing and hand-to-hand grappling techniques to neutralize enemies without weapons.
- Month 4: Covers specialized tactical skills, including sniper shooting and breaching doors with explosives.
- Month 5: Finalizes preparation with simulated night missions, drone technology, wireless communication, and covert infiltration.
This comprehensive regime ensures the new elite unit remains fully prepared to handle high-risk counter-terrorism operations across the province.
