Over 250,000 Pakistanis Migrate Abroad for Better Jobs in Early 2026

ISLAMABAD — Economic pressures and the search for better career opportunities have driven a massive wave of migration from Pakistan, with a quarter of a million citizens leaving the country in the first four months of 2026 alone.

Official government documents reveal that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar remain the primary destinations for the Pakistani workforce. Notably, migration to the UAE has seen an unprecedented, rapid surge compared to previous years.

Gulf Region Dominates Pakistani Migration

The Middle East continues to absorb the lion’s share of Pakistani labor and professional talent. Saudi Arabia topped the list, welcoming 136,488 Pakistani workers during this four-month period.

The UAE witnessed the most dramatic spike in arrivals. While a total of 52,500 Pakistanis moved to Dubai in the entirety of last year, nearly 50,000 individuals migrated to Dubai in just the first four months of this year. Meanwhile, Qatar hosted 25,500 Pakistani workers, and Bahrain accommodated 10,129.

Brain Drain: Highly Skilled Professionals on the Move

The data highlights a significant “brain drain,” as thousands of highly educated and skilled professionals chose to relocate abroad. The departing workforce includes:

  • Engineers: 2,000
  • Accountants: Over 1,600
  • Doctors: Over 1,000
  • IT Specialists & Computer Experts: Over 1,050

Blue-Collar Sector Leads the Demographics

While high-skilled migration poses a challenge for Pakistan’s domestic industries, blue-collar workers make up the vast majority of the migrating population. Laborers and transport workers constitute the backbone of this exodus, seeking higher wages to send back home as remittances.

Global Footprint and Untapped Markets

Beyond the Gulf, Pakistani citizens also secured employment across Europe, Asia, and North America. Turkey employed 3,000 Pakistanis, while Greece and Iraq took in 1,286 and 1,283 workers, respectively. The United Kingdom welcomed 1,100 individuals, China absorbed 850, Japan saw 577 arrivals, and the United States granted employment to 300 Pakistani nationals.

Conversely, the report noted zero migration from Pakistan to several regions, including Greenland, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, and West Africa during this period.

As the economic landscape prompts more skilled and unskilled workers to seek avenues abroad, analysts suggest that these numbers will likely break previous annual records, significantly boosting foreign remittances but leaving local industries strapped for top-tier talent.
