PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi held a high-level meeting at the Governor House Peshawar to deliberate on the province’s law and order situation and other critical regional matters.

The meeting, which included Speaker of the Provincial Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, Information Minister Shafi Jan, and the Chief Secretary, focused extensively on resolving pressing public grievances, including the ongoing CNG station shutdowns and the current wheat supply challenges from Punjab.

CNG Closure and Wheat Supply Crisis

During the discussion, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi termed the ongoing closure of CNG stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a direct violation of the constitution. He emphasized that both the CNG shutdown and the restrictions on wheat supply are severely burdening the province’s impoverished population.

Addressing the wheat transit deadlock, the Governor highlighted an alternative procurement route:

  • Sindh’s Readiness: The Sindh government remains fully willing to supply wheat to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
  • The Punjab Transit Obstacle: KP can smoothly procure this wheat from Sindh provided that Punjab grants a corridor for safe transit.
  • Economic Impact: Due to the current lack of transit clearance, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is forced to source wheat at significantly inflated prices.
