Digital Shift: KP Launches AI-Powered Driving License System

PESHAWAR – Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi officially inaugurated the Digital License Management System under the Department of Transport. Furthermore, this initiative translates the vision of digitalization into a practical reality for the province.

The new system automates the entire driving license issuance process to enhance public convenience and ensure strict merit.

First, the chief minister characterized this launch as a significant milestone in the provincial government’s reform agenda. Specifically, the administration continues to introduce reforms in e-governance, online service delivery, and digital payments to provide modern facilities.   • Issuance Volume: Notably, the department has already issued 19,966 learner permits and 2,212 permanent driving licenses.
  • Revenue Generation: Also, the pilot phase successfully generated 50 million PKR in revenue for the provincial government.
  • Remote Access: Indeed, citizens can now apply for licenses from home using the “Dastak” app or the dedicated web portal.
  • AI Integration: Specifically, the system features artificial intelligence-based facial recognition and QR code verification.

  • Pre-Scheduling: Also, the system allows citizens to schedule medical and driving tests in advance.

The provincial government established a centralized database to ensure timely availability of records and more effective verification. Specifically, the integration with the Dastak platform makes services and immigration-related verification more efficient.
