Imran Khan’s Immediate Release Unlikely Despite Bail in Multiple Cases

PESHAWAR – Despite securing bail in several cases from the Supreme Court, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, is unlikely to be released soon due to the sheer volume of pending cases and a conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust reference.

According to official reports, Khan still faces 43 cases registered in Rawalpindi, Attock, Hassan Abdal, and Taxila between September and November of last year. Among these, he is nominated in the case of a police officer’s murder in Taxila.

While bail has been granted in 12 cases by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi and in 9 cases related to the May 9 riots, Khan remains on judicial remand in at least 8 cases. Additionally, bail bonds in 9 other cases have not yet been submitted, delaying his release further.

His legal troubles extend beyond Rawalpindi. Despite securing bail in several Lahore-based cases, his conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust case remains a major obstacle. This conviction legally prevents him from leaving jail immediately, even if bail is obtained elsewhere.

The Interior Ministry has also confirmed that multiple investigations are ongoing, and Khan continues to face trial proceedings across various courts. The complexity of overlapping cases, coupled with procedural delays, has significantly reduced the likelihood of an early release.

Legal experts suggest that while the Supreme Court’s bail approvals mark a partial victory for Khan’s legal team, his political comeback remains uncertain until the Al-Qadir case conviction is overturned and bail bonds in pending cases are processed.

For now, Imran Khan’s freedom remains tied up in layers of litigation — a legal quagmire reflecting both his political challenges and Pakistan’s turbulent judicial landscape.
