PESHAWAR – The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has stopped the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government from repurposing the historic Governor House in Nathia Gali and granted temporary usage rights to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
The decision came during a hearing on Tuesday, where a bench comprising Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal heard a petition challenging the provincial government’s takeover of the property. The court also issued a notice to the government, demanding an explanation.

Petitioner’s lawyer, Shumail Ahmad Butt, told the court that the provincial authorities had no legal right to convert the Nathia Gali Governor House into a commercial facility, insisting that only a presidential order could alter its constitutional status.
“The governor house isn’t just a building—it holds legal and symbolic significance,” Butt said, citing the example of Murree’s Punjab Governor House, which was formally re-designated via presidential decree.

The court has sought a reply from the provincial government and adjourned the hearing. The ruling comes amid wider tensions over the use and control of official state properties across Pakistan.
