PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carbon asset inventory has been officially launched, marking a major step toward clean energy and climate resilience in the province. This initiative aims to track emissions, boost climate financing, and highlight the environmental impact of renewable energy projects.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur led the launch ceremony at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. He introduced the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carbon asset inventory as a modern tool to support the province’s green energy goals.
The UK-funded SEED programme collaborated with the provincial government to develop this inventory. Together, they assessed the potential for carbon credits and renewable energy certificates from PEDO’s ongoing projects.
A big step for climate finance! The UK has supported @GovernmentKP to create a Carbon Asset Inventory for its renewable energy projects. It will allow KP to track and monetise its CO₂ reductions, by selling carbon credits – allowing them to reinvest in green infrastructure. pic.twitter.com/ciZh4o9F6I

“This is not just a technical document—it’s a sign of our province’s leadership on climate,” Gandapur said during his speech. He called the launch a bold step that connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with global environmental targets.
The inventory maps PEDO’s renewable energy projects and calculates how much carbon these projects save. By using this data, the government plans to tap into international climate financing. Officials will now translate saved emissions into measurable carbon credits that can support further green development.

Importantly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carbon asset inventory will also guide future planning. It helps the province stay accountable, transparent, and aligned with global climate reporting standards.
Chief Minister Gandapur emphasized that promoting renewable energy is no longer optional—it’s essential. He reaffirmed that economic independence and environmental sustainability are core priorities for his government. With several projects already active and more in the pipeline, PEDO will continue to lead the way in building a cleaner energy future.
