PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced a sharp increase in violence during the first six months of the year, with 756 terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported across various districts.
These include 12 missile attacks, 35 hand grenade blasts, 5 suicide bombings, and 80 improvised explosive device (IED) explosions, according to the Central Police Office (CPO) Peshawar’s semi-annual crime report.
In addition to terror-related incidents, the province witnessed 94 extortion cases, 41 targeted killings, 38 abductions, and 269 attacks on police and government officials. Law enforcement agencies also registered 44 cases against individuals accused of collaborating with terrorists and 13 cases linked to financial support for terrorist networks.
The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is currently investigating 561 terrorism-related cases.

Surge in Militant Violence
The most recent attack occurred in Bajaur, where a bomb targeted Assistant Commissioner and other officials, resulting in multiple fatalities. The CPO report further revealed that 5 suicide bombings occurred in various parts of the province during this period, along with increased use of sophisticated weapons such as missiles and hand grenades.
Security officials said that 12 missile attacks and 35 hand grenade incidents took place in both urban and tribal areas, with the majority aimed at security forces and government installations.

Intensified Operations by Security Forces
In response to the rising number of terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces launched 78 operations in eight districts during June alone. These actions led to the elimination of 44 militants, including 23 in South Waziristan, 6 in North Waziristan, 4 in Bannu, 3 in Kohat, and 2 each in Kurram and Dera Ismail Khan.
During these operations, security forces recovered 13 rocket launchers, 3 hand grenades, and other weapons from terrorist hideouts, indicating the high level of armament in the possession of hostile elements.

Growing Threat to Public Safety
The escalation of terror attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to threaten public safety and strain provincial law enforcement. The CPO report underscores the need for coordinated intelligence, better equipment, and increased personnel to counter the growing influence of militant groups in the region.
With the number of attacks showing no signs of decline, residents and officials alike are urging the provincial and federal governments to take immediate action to protect civilian lives and infrastructure.
