PESHAWAR – The University of Peshawar will soon host a state-of-the-art innovation hub, as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government rolls out new plans to promote digital entrepreneurship and expand access to information technology across the province.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur made the announcement following a detailed briefing in Peshawar, where officials outlined the features of the upcoming facility. The innovation hub will include 22 private offices, two event halls, a conference room, a board room, committee rooms, and co-working spaces—all located within the existing incubation centre at the University of Peshawar.
Officials expect the initiative to generate up to 60mn rupees [approximately 214,000 US dollars] annually for the University of Peshawar, turning the space into a revenue-generating centre for both the academic and tech community. The facility aims to provide a supportive environment for students, freelancers, startups, and private IT firms to collaborate and grow.
The hub is part of a wider provincial strategy to launch digital connect centres across all divisional headquarters. These centres will be housed in rented buildings during the initial phase and will feature IT parks, shared working spaces, and computer labs.
Speaking at the meeting, Gandapur stressed the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and public sector digitisation. “We want to see young people from every division gain access to modern IT opportunities. Building this ecosystem is essential for the future,” he said.
He added that all government departments are being digitised, and that required funding for these upgrades will be released on a priority basis. The move marks a significant step in transforming University of Peshawar into a regional leader in digital innovation.
