PESHAWAR – The inquiry committee has completed its investigation into the Malakand University harassment case, revealing no evidence to support viral claims of 4,000 indecent videos students. However, disciplinary action against the accused professor continues following harassment allegations.
In February, this year, a female student filed a complaint against a professor, accusing him of months-long sexual harassment and an attempted abduction from her residence. Authorities arrested the professor in Lower Dir, and the university suspended him immediately while referring the matter to its harassment committee.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur ordered a high-level probe into the malakand university harassment case, appointing Additional Secretary Asif Rahim and AIG Sonia Shamroz to lead the investigation. The committee visited the university, recorded statements, and examined digital evidence with support from the Deputy Commissioner and District Police Officer of Lower Dir.
According to the committee’s final report, the professor’s mobile phone contained no unethical videos, and investigators found no signs of a gang operating within the university to record or distribute immoral content. The report confirmed that social media posts suggesting the existence of thousands of indecent videos were false and aimed at damaging the institution’s reputation.
The committee recommended further action against those who spread false claims and advised the university to approach the Federal Investigation Agency. It also urged the activation of harassment committees across universities and emphasized the need for awareness seminars to prevent future incidents.
While the Malakand University harassment case did not uncover any large-scale scandal, it raised serious concerns about institutional safeguards and the spread of misinformation on social media. The university has pledged full cooperation and intends to implement the inquiry’s recommendations to protect students and uphold academic integrity.
