PESHAWAR- The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved the Brick Kiln Registration Bill 2024, introducing a regulatory framework to streamline the industry and address environmental concerns.
The legislation grants industrial status to brick kilns and aims to ensure sustainable operations while protecting labor rights.
Under the Brick Kiln Registration Bill 2024, existing kilns must register with the Directorate General of Industries and Commerce within 120 days. Operating without a registration certificate will result in penalties, including fines of up to 200,000 rupees and up to six months’ imprisonment. The law also prohibits kilns near schools, hospitals, forests, and transmission lines, ensuring public safety and environmental protection.
The bill mandates the use of environmentally friendly technology for registration and requires annual renewal of registration certificates. Authorities now have the power to shut down unregistered kilns and enforce compliance with the new standards.
In addition to regulating brick kiln registration, the assembly approved an amendment to the Commercial Disputes Resolution Bill, allowing appeals of commercial court decisions to the High Court within 30 days. Both bills were passed unanimously, signaling the government’s commitment to industrial reform and sustainable practices.
The Brick Kiln Registration Bill 2024 ensures the welfare of laborers, and reducing environmental pollution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
