Over 90% of housing societies in KP are illegal or unregistered

PESHAWAR: A startling report from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government (LG) Department reveals that more than 90% of the housing societies in the province are either illegal or unregistered. Out of a total of 822 housing societies, only 80 have been officially recognized as legal, making up just 10% of the total.
According to the report, 60% (495) of the housing societies in the province have been classified as illegal, while 30% (247) remain unregistered. This leaves the majority of housing societies operating outside the legal framework.
The division of these housing societies across the province shows that the Dera Ismail Khan division has the highest number of housing societies at 254, followed by Peshawar with 247, Malakand with 77, Hazara with 74, Bannu with 73, Mardan with 67, and Kohat with 30 societies.
In response, the LG department has published a list of the illegal housing societies in local newspapers and released the names of unregistered societies on its website. The public has been strongly advised not to engage in any financial transactions with these unauthorized housing schemes.
