KP Chief Minister Arrested at Chief Minister’s House, Sources Say

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was arrested at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, according to sources.

The sources said Afridi returned to the Chief Minister’s House after addressing a long-march gathering in Mardan. He then called Law Minister Aftab Alam and Advocate General Shah Faisal for legal consultations on the possible imposition of an emergency and governor’s rule.

According to the sources, the meeting agreed that the government would approach the court against governor’s rule or an emergency.

The sources further said a meeting of the party’s core committee was held at night. Participants agreed that their demands were in line with the Constitution and should be implemented. They also said they wanted terrorism to end but disagreed with the proposed method.

Sources said Junaid Akbar and the chief minister were arrested during the day. PTI leader Shahid Khattak also confirmed the arrests, according to the report. Electricity and telephone connections to the Chief Minister’s House were cut before the arrests took place there.

Meanwhile, Peshawar’s Red Zone was sealed, and entry and exit routes were blocked with containers. Additional police personnel were deployed.

Following a PTI call for protests in Peshawar, between 10 and 15 party workers gathered at Bacha Khan Chowk. Police dispersed them shortly afterwards.
