PESHAWAR—Law enforcement agencies recently intensified police encounters in Peshawar. This shift aims to curb a sudden spike in street crime. During high-stakes operations, police arrested five dangerous suspects. These individuals sustained injuries during intense exchanges of fire in Gulbahar, Daudzai, and Chamkani.
Firefight in Daudzai
Daudzai Police reported that a patrol team engaged a group of armed men. This encounter led to immediate crossfire. Consequently, the suspects’ own accomplices shot and wounded two men. Police identified these suspects as Masood (alias Matto) and Ikram. Officers quickly detained them and recovered several illegal weapons.

A check of their criminal records revealed a significant history.
- The suspects appear in over 15 First Information Reports (FIRs).
- Police in Peshawar and Charsadda sought them for dacoity and armed robbery.
- Several police stations, including Khanmai and Faqirabad, registered cases against them for attacking officers.
While police neutralized these two, other accomplices escaped under the cover of darkness. Therefore, police teams have launched a search operation to track the remaining criminals.

Gulbahar Encounter
In a separate incident, Gulbahar police acted on a tip near the Lahore Bus Stand. Armed suspects opened fire on the police party upon their arrival. In the ensuing shootout, the police injured and captured a robber named Syedullah.
Current reports indicate that Syedullah belongs to an active street crime gang. However, his accomplices, Jamil and Shahzeb, fled the scene. Law enforcement has now cordoned off the area to find these remaining gang members.
Crackdown on Organized Crime
These recent police encounters in Peshawar signal a proactive change in security strategy. Specifically, the police administration ordered all stations to increase patrolling in crime hotspots.
The arrested suspects remain under medical supervision while in police custody. They will soon face trial for their violent crimes. Authorities emphasized that the crackdown will continue until they dismantle all local robbery networks.
