PESHAWAR – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Secretary General Muhammad Humayun Khan has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of misleading the public with empty promises. Speaking outside the Peshawar High Court, he said PTI is attempting to disrupt peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by repeatedly calling for protests funded from the provincial treasury.
Humayun Khan highlighted the double standards of the PTI government. He said while PTI organizes weekly protests that damage public property and attack security forces, PPP’s peaceful protests against corruption are met with baton charges and legal action. He added that PPP leaders appeared in court seeking bail in false cases registered against them during their protests.
The court granted interim pre-arrest bail to Humayun Khan in connection with the “Save the Province” protest case registered on May 26. He vowed that PPP will continue to raise its voice against corruption and hold corrupt elements accountable.
Humayun Khan said public participation in the “Save the Province” protests proves PPP’s growing popularity. He criticized PTI for failing to deliver meaningful reforms during its fifteen years in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The time has come to hold corrupt leaders responsible and make them answerable to the people,” he asserted.
Alongside Humayun Khan, PLF President Gohar Rehman Khattak, lawyers Lajbar Khan and Shakeel Gilani, and other party members were present at the court.
The PPP leader urged PTI to reflect on its actions before filing cases against opposition leaders. He reaffirmed that PPP will continue peaceful resistance against the exploitative system on all forums.
