Police thwart coordinated militant attacks in Bannu

Security forces repelled coordinated militant attacks on Thana Ghoriwala and Thana Wazir in Bannu late last night, officials confirmed. Militants armed with light and heavy weapons launched simultaneous assaults around midnight.

Bannu police responded quickly and forced the attackers to retreat. No one was injured, and no damage occurred. The police infrastructure and personnel stayed completely safe. Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the force for its bravery and professionalism, calling their actions crucial in blocking “the enemy’s malicious plans.”

Over the past three months, Bannu police foiled more than 140 militant attacks in the region, said DIG Sajad Khan. Special operations killed dozens of militants and injured several others. These efforts significantly improved law and order in the district.

DIG Khan emphasized that the police will continue fighting militancy until it is completely eradicated. “Protecting citizens’ lives and property is our top priority, and every security front is fully alert,” he said. Coordination with other security forces and public support strengthened these efforts, ensuring militants no longer dominate the region.

Military operation kills 22 militants

In a related development, Pakistan’s military killed 22 militants during an intelligence-led operation in Bannu. The Inter-Services Public Relations (Military Media Wing) said troops targeted an Indian-backed armed faction identified as the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Troops cleared several hideouts during a fierce exchange of fire. The military confirmed that it will continue counterterrorism operations until all militant networks are dismantled. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the operation, noting that the public strongly supports the armed forces against insurgent threats.

The recent police and military actions show a clear shift in Bannu’s security. Officials say persistent vigilance, proactive intelligence, and joint force operations remain critical to maintaining peace. Authorities assured residents that they are taking all measures to secure the district. Counterterrorism actions will continue until the area achieves complete stability..
