The Peshawar Safe City Project aims to curb terrorism and rising crime in the provincial capital, with the government setting a target to complete it by December 2025. Authorities have identified 128 key locations across the city where thousands of modern CCTV cameras will be installed, enhancing security for residents.
The project comes nearly 17 years after Peshawar faced a series of terrorist attacks in 2008, which highlighted vulnerabilities in political gatherings, religious events, mosques, churches, temples, and gurudwaras. Over the years, threats to public safety persisted, including street crimes such as snatching of mobile phones, motorcycles, and other valuables, particularly targeting women and pedestrians.

The Peshawar Safe City Project was conceived to address these challenges, but funding shortages delayed its implementation. Rising costs for CCTV cameras and other security infrastructure further contributed to the project’s repeated postponement.
Now, with renewed focus, authorities have launched the phased implementation of the project. Around 8,500 modern cameras will be installed across 128 locations, aiming to significantly improve citywide surveillance and public safety. Officials expect the project to strengthen law enforcement’s ability to monitor and prevent criminal activity, making Peshawar a safer city for all residents.
