Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi officially approved the Peshawar Revitalization Plan during a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister Secretariat. This initiative focuses on modernizing the provincial capital’s urban structure while protecting its historic identity.
The Chief Minister described Peshawar as the face of the province. He pledged to provide all necessary resources on a priority basis to ensure the city becomes a clean and beautiful hub for residents and visitors.
Transforming Roads and Traffic Flow
The Peshawar Revitalization Plan includes a massive project to upgrade 165 kilometers of road networks across 34 central highways. Authorities will install modern lighting and implement advanced beautification measures along these routes.
To resolve chronic traffic congestion, the government plans to build a modern cloverleaf interchange at the Pir Zakori intersection. The engineering team also aims to construct new underpasses and vertical parking plazas at several busy locations throughout the city.
A significant portion of the Peshawar Revitalization Plan involves shifting dangerous overhead electrical wires underground. Workers will begin this process from the Pir Zakori Bridge to Suray Pul and from Aman Chowk to the Karkhano Market area.
The Chief Minister also agreed to establish a Valley and Horticulture Authority to lead urban forestation efforts. This new body will oversee the development of a high-tech children’s park in Hayatabad and a large theme park along the banks of the Kabul River.
Preserving Heritage and Culinary Culture
The Peshawar Revitalization Plan prioritizes the city’s cultural heritage by creating a state-of-the-art food street at the historic Chowk Yadgar. This project aims to celebrate local cuisine and attract food enthusiasts from across the country.
Specialists will also restore iconic heritage sites like Gor Khatri, Sethi House, and the Bibi Jan Tomb to their original condition. These efforts ensure that the city’s history remains visible even as the infrastructure becomes more modern.
To ensure the Peshawar Revitalization Plan succeeds, the Chief Minister formed a special committee to monitor daily progress. He ordered all relevant departments to follow strict deadlines and ensure the timely completion of every project.
The plan also addresses sanitation by introducing new electric road cleaners and restoring the historic Shahi Katha drainage system. These steps will modernize the city’s waste management and prevent urban flooding during the monsoon season..
