PESHAWAR: Additional Sessions Judge Peshawar, Muhammad Asif, sentenced seven officials of the Excise Police, including a Station House Officer (SHO), to ten days in prison and a fine for contempt and non-compliance during a narcotics trial.
The court took this action during the trial of the case titled Muhammad Rahman etc. vs. The State. According to the prosecution, official witnesses from the Excise Police failed to appear before the court when the hearing commenced. These witnesses had also remained absent during previous hearing dates.
The court had previously issued non-bailable arrest warrants and notices under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the officials due to their persistent absence. Following their continued failure to appear, the court sentenced SHO Excise Police Inspector Sher Muhammad Khan, DFC Abdullah, SI Lal Gul Khan, SI Shiraz Khan, and officials Farooq, Saqlain, and Nasir Mahmood to ten days of imprisonment and a fine of Rs500 each under Section 174 PPC.
The judge directed the authorities to send copies of the judicial order to the Director General (DG) Excise Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar. This ensures both the execution of the court’s sentence and the initiation of departmental proceedings against the convicted officials.
