TORKHAM – Pakistan has announced a key policy shift by introducing one-year multiple-entry visas for Afghan drivers and transporters to streamline cross-border trade and movement.

Senior Pakistani customs agent Haji Abid Khan Shinwari confirmed the decision, stating that the initiative aims to ease bilateral commercial activity and improve border operations. The new visa will be issued under the “Transit Transport (Work)” category and is valid for one year with multiple entries permitted.

According to the official announcement, the visa fee has been fixed at 100 US dollars. Afghan drivers seeking the visa will need to submit their applications through the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) online portal. The move is part of broader efforts to facilitate legal and regulated mobility between the two neighbouring countries.

To apply for the visa, applicants are required to upload a recent photograph, a valid passport, identity documents, temporary entry permits, and either an employment letter from a registered transport company or an operator’s license. Additionally, a valid driving license is also mandatory.

Officials believe the policy will reduce congestion at the Torkham border, enhance customs coordination, and ensure smoother transit for Afghan goods and personnel. It is expected to benefit hundreds of Afghan drivers who regularly cross into Pakistan for commercial purposes but face delays due to limited visa duration and processing.

This development comes amid renewed efforts to formalize border management between Pakistan and Afghanistan, especially at high-traffic crossings such as Torkham. Authorities hope that the one-year multiple-entry visa will promote mutual economic interests while also enhancing security protocols through a structured documentation process.
