ISLAMABAD — A medical report from the legal team of the PTI founder Imran Khan has sparked a political firestorm in the country. Legal counsel for the former Prime Minister claims that the Imran Khan eye vision in his right eye has been reduced to just 15% following a period of alleged medical neglect.
The revelation has prompted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi to declare that it will not stop the public from “shutting down” the province in protest.
The Medical Crisis: A Sudden Loss of Sight
According to a detailed legal petition, the Petitioner maintained normal “6 x 6” vision in both eyes until October 2025. He then began suffering from persistent blurred and hazy vision. Despite repeatedly reporting these symptoms to the then Jail Superintendent, the legal team alleges that authorities took no action.
The situation escalated into a sudden and complete loss of vision in his right eye. Dr. Muhammad Arif, an ophthalmologist from PIMS Hospital, was eventually called to examine him. The diagnosis revealed a blood clot that caused severe damage. Despite treatment, including an injection, the Imran Khan eye vision in his right eye is now reportedly at only 15%.
The legal team personally observed the Petitioner appearing “visibly perturbed and deeply distressed” by the loss of sight. Throughout the meeting, his eyes were watery, and he repeatedly used a tissue to wipe them, reflecting significant physical pain and distress.
Chief Minister Afridi: ‘My Police Will Not Stop Protesters’
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi issued a scathing response during a media talk, accusing the state of targeting Khan’s life. “Everyone is after Imran Khan. You guys are after Imran Khan’s eyes, you are after his life,” Afridi stated.
The Chief Minister issued a historic warning regarding the Imran Khan eye vision crisis:
- He stated that Pakistanis can no longer “sit idle with their hands tied.”
- He declared that if the people of KP come out and shut down the province, the provincial police will not stop them.
- He emphasized that no government institutions will stand in the way of those demanding their rights.
- He noted that the public will use the authority given to them by the Constitution to protest if the judiciary does not provide justice.
Leadership Decries an ‘Assault’ on the State
Sher Afzal Marwat also addressed the media, stating his personal opinion that Khan’s health “doesn’t seem right.” He claimed that no satisfactory treatment has been provided for the leader’s eye. Marwat characterized the two-and-a-half-year imprisonment as an act of “land-grabber mafias” and described the entire situation as an “assault” against the Constitution, democracy, and the state of Pakistan. He highlighted the “oppression” unleashed upon the party and the imprisonment of Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi.
Aleema Khan: ‘The Public Will Not Remain Silent’
Aleema Khan, the former premier’s sister, reiterated that the public cannot be stopped because this is now a matter of “Imran Khan’s life.” Chief Minister Afridi supported her stance, vowing to bring those responsible for the medical neglect, specifically mentioning Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, to justice. “Aleema Apa does not lie,” Afridi added, insisting that the entire nation will support the call for accountability.
Supreme Court Intervention
Amidst the rising tension, the Chief Justice has ordered that a health check-up by Khan’s personal physician must be conducted by February 16. The Supreme Court also directed that Khan be allowed to speak with his children before that date. Chief Minister Afridi expressed hope that the nation would be assured of Khan’s health following this check-up, while the defense remains focused on restoring the remaining Imran Khan eye vision.
