PESHAWAR – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has emphasized that no child in Pakistan should be denied treatment for congenital heart disease due to poverty or financial hardship. Speaking at a symposium on congenital heart diseases in children held at Rehman Medical Institute (RMI), he termed the condition a growing public health concern requiring urgent collective action.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, Governor Kundi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring early diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases through joint efforts of the public and private sectors. He praised RMI as a national institution of excellence in healthcare, highlighting its role in providing advanced cardiac care to children across the region.
The symposium, organized by RMI, was also addressed by RMI Chairman Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rehman, Dr. Azam Jan Khan, Mr. Shafiqur Rehman, Dr. Tariq Sohail, and other leading cardiologists. Experts discussed advancements in pediatric cardiology, stressing the need for awareness, early screening, and improved access to specialized treatment.
Citing medical data, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi revealed that nearly eight out of every 1,000 children in Pakistan are born with congenital heart defects. He said that with coordinated efforts among the government, medical professionals, and healthcare institutions, every child suffering from heart disease can receive life-saving care regardless of financial status.
Governor Kundi lauded the dedication and humanitarian spirit of the symposium’s organizers, medical experts, and participants, describing their work as a reflection of compassion and service to humanity.
