PESHAWAR – To provide relief amidst rising inflation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet has officially approved the KP Ramazan Package 2026. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the provincial government will distribute an average of Rs. 12,500 per family among 1,063,000 low-income households across the province.
Reflecting on the previous year’s relief efforts, the Chief Minister noted that in 2024, the KP government provided Rs. 10,000 per family. However, due to the staggering hike in the prices of essential commodities—specifically flour and sugar—the KP Ramadan Package 2026 has been increased by 25% to ensure the underprivileged can meet their basic needs during the holy month.
CM Expresses Anger Over Development Delays
Presiding over the 47th cabinet meeting, CM Sohail Afridi expressed severe displeasure over the slow progress of Annual Development Program (ADP) projects for 2025-26.
- Fast-Track Instructions: The CM ordered that all ongoing projects must be put on the “fast track” within this month.
- ADP 2026-27 Timeline: He reminded officials that the deadline for completing the ADP 2026-27 framework was February 15th and directed that briefings on the new development budget begin immediately.
- Public Relief: “The fruits of these development projects must reach the public by next month,” the CM stated.
Mandatory “Khuli Kacheris” and Digital Access
To bridge the gap between the government and the citizens, the Chief Minister has mandated weekly “Khuli Kacheris” (Public Hearings) for all Secretaries, DGs, and district administrations.
“At least one online Khuli Kacheri per week is now mandatory at the provincial level. This is an effective way for those with limited resources to have their voices heard directly from their homes,” said CM Afridi.
Concerns Over PTI Founder’s Health and Human Rights
During the session, CM Sohail Afridi raised serious concerns regarding the treatment of the PTI Founder in prison. He categorized the denial of access to doctors and family as a blatant violation of the Constitution and basic human rights.
- Health Transparency: The CM demanded an end to the ambiguity surrounding the Founder’s health, noting that reports of a potential eye surgery suggest inhumane treatment in jail.
- Condemnation of Violence: The cabinet strongly condemned the police violence against elected representatives in Karachi and the alleged abduction and torture of Ali Zaman outside Adiala Jail.
- Accountability: The KP government has demanded that those in plain clothes involved in such “terrorist-like” acts of torture be brought to justice immediately.
