PESHAWAR – Facing the escalating threat of climate change, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial assembly has enacted the KP Climate Action Board Act 2025. This legislation establishes a dedicated Climate Action Board (CAB) to lead the province’s efforts against environmental challenges.
Announced on Friday, the new board will serve as a central hub for planning, monitoring, and implementing climate-related initiatives. By focusing on coordinated action, the CAB seeks to reduce the devastating impacts of climate change and promote sustainable development across KP.

The board’s objectives include cutting greenhouse gas emissions, addressing risks like glacial lake outburst flooding, and tackling water scarcity. These issues increasingly threaten the region’s fragile ecosystems, demanding immediate attention. To achieve these goals, the CAB will oversee research, raise public awareness, and build community resilience. It plans to collaborate with private sectors and international bodies for effective solutions. A newly introduced Climate Action Fund will provide financial support, ensuring the board’s independence.
