The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly unanimously approved a resolution to provide medical support for Afghanistan earthquake victims after a powerful tremor killed more than 700 people and injured over 1,500.

Government lawmaker Ubaidur Rehman presented the joint resolution, which expressed sorrow over the destruction in Afghanistan and pledged all possible medical assistance for the injured.

Lawmakers demanded that Afghan victims receive emergency treatment in Pakistan, even without visas. They also called on provincial and federal authorities to dispatch aid teams, medicines, and essential supplies to the affected areas.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Kunar province a day earlier, collapsing homes and trapping families under debris. The devastation pushed Peshawar’s lawmakers to act swiftly, signalling cross-border solidarity despite political strains.

Ali Amin, a senior figure in the provincial government, said his intervention had ensured facilities for Afghan refugees returning home. He argued Afghan citizens deserved Pakistani citizenship and promised that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government stood ready to extend every form of assistance to earthquake victims.

The resolution carried moral weight as lawmakers described the tragedy as a humanitarian crisis that demanded compassion over politics. By approving visa-free medical access and pressing for immediate relief operations, the assembly moved to position Pakistan as a frontline responder to Afghanistan’s disaster.

The provincial resolution now places pressure on Islamabad to coordinate wider aid efforts and deliver supplies into the quake-hit region, where the death toll continues to climb.
