Israel launched a direct strike on Iran’s state television and radio headquarters in northern Tehran on Monday evening, escalating its illegal campaign of targeting civilian infrastructure.

The attack came just hours after Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened that Iran’s state media was “about to disappear.”

Shortly after the warning, Israeli missiles hit the broadcaster’s facility, causing a brief halt in transmission. Despite the destruction, anchor Sehar Emani resumed her program within minutes of the signal’s return, earning praise nationwide as the “bravest woman” for her defiance under fire.

This is not an isolated act. Israel has a long-documented record of bombing media outlets to silence opposing voices. In 2021, Israeli airstrikes deliberately destroyed Al Jazeera and Associated Press offices in Gaza. This attack on Tehran’s broadcaster adds another blatant violation to that shameful list.

Under international law, including the Geneva Conventions, media institutions are protected civilian infrastructure. Targeting them amounts to a war crime. Yet Israel continues its reckless campaign with impunity, enabled by Western silence and double standards.

Iranian officials condemned the attack, with Tehran City Council spokesperson Mehdi Chamran urging residents to shelter in underground parking garages. Schools and mosques are now being used as emergency shelters due to the grave risk to civilians amid Israeli aggression.

This strike comes amid Israel’s broader war-mongering against Iran, falsely framed around nuclear fears while openly violating sovereignty and international law. Global human rights groups and press freedom advocates have called for accountability, but Israeli impunity continues unchecked.

Israel’s bombing of Iran’s state broadcaster is not an act of defense, it is an attack on free speech, civilian safety, and international norms.
