Islamabad Suicide Attack Investigation Reveals Major Breakthrough

The Islamabad suicide attack investigation recorded a major breakthrough as Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar revealed new arrests, key confessional statements, and clear cross-border links behind the assault.

During a press conference in Islamabad, he showed the video statement of the attack’s handler, Sajidullah alias Sheena, marking an important moment in the probe.

The minister said investigators made swift progress and exposed the entire militant network. He said the suicide bomber failed to reach the high-security target in Islamabad, which prevented a major tragedy. The bomber detonated the explosives in the city’s suburban area, which had been his fallback target.

Atta Tarar said the Intelligence Bureau and the Counter Terrorism Department acted within 48 hours and arrested four key suspects: Sajidullah alias Sheena, Kamran Khan, Muhammad Zali, and Shah Munir.

He said Sajidullah handled the attack, brought the suicide jacket, and arranged the explosive materials. Sajidullah joined the Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan in 2015 and trained at several militant camps. Since 2023, he had maintained direct contact with Taliban Pakistan commander Dadullah in Afghanistan.

The minister said TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud planned the attack and relayed instructions through Dadullah. Sajidullah last met Dadullah in Afghanistan in August 2025. They stayed in contact through an encrypted messaging app.

Investigators learned that Sajidullah, Muhammad Zali, and Kamran Khan also met Abdullah Jan alias Abu Hamza, commander of Fitna al-Khawarij, in Afghanistan’s Shigal region. After the meeting, Dadullah assigned them suicide missions in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Officials later identified the suicide bomber as Usman Shinwari, a resident of Nangarhar, Afghanistan.

After entering Pakistan, the bomber received the suicide jacket and explosives. He later detonated himself in G-11 Islamabad. “This entire network operated from Afghanistan, and we have concrete evidence,” Atta Tarar said.

The arrested suspects confessed to important details during interrogation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the Intelligence Bureau and CTD for their operation. The minister added that the Pakistan Army, under Field Marshal Asim Munir, remains fully mobilised.

He assured citizens that security agencies remain on high alert and continue to take all measures for public safety. During the briefing, officials also showed the media the confessional video of Sajidullah alias Sheena.

The Islamabad suicide attack investigation continues as authorities work to dismantle the remaining cross-border militant links.
