PESHAWAR – Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has reported that 392 women lost their lives in honour-related killings across Pakistan between January and November 2024.
Punjab recorded the highest number of cases with 168 women killed. Sindh followed with 151, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 52 cases. Balochistan registered 19 incidents, and Islamabad had two.
The report also tracked other forms of violence against women. Authorities registered 1,969 rape cases across the country in 2024. They also documented 299 domestic violence incidents, 30 cases of women being set on fire, and 43 acid attacks.
Forced religious conversions continued to affect women. The report listed 11 such cases during the year. In total, 980 women were murdered in other violence-related incidents unrelated to honour killings.
HRCP urged the government to take immediate steps. It called for stronger legal action and better protection for women, especially in areas where cultural traditions often shield perpetrators from accountability.
Rights groups are pushing for law enforcement agencies to respond more effectively. They want faster investigations and stricter punishments for those involved in gender-based violence.
