Heavy Rains Claim Nine Lives Across KP Since March 25

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released an initial report detailing significant life and property losses across various districts due to ongoing rains. Since March 25, structural collapses involving roofs and walls have resulted in nine deaths.

Furthermore, the authorities have reported 47 injuries. According to the PDMA, the deceased include eight children and one woman, while the injured count comprises 26 men and 21 children.

The report identifies Bannu and North Waziristan as the two districts most affected by these incidents. So far, the heavy rains have partially damaged six houses across these regions. Consequently, the PDMA, Rescue 1122, and district administrations remain in constant contact to manage the ongoing relief activities.

The Director General (DG) of the PDMA has issued strict directives to the district administrations to provide immediate relief goods to the victims. Specifically, the DG instructed the Bannu administration to ensure the swift delivery of financial assistance to the families of the deceased. To lessen additional suffering for the impacted communities, the provincial government has also urged district officials to expedite all rescue efforts.

Intermittent rain continues to affect various districts, and the PDMA expects this pattern to persist until Tuesday. Therefore, the DG has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel. Specifically, the authorities advise citizens to stay away from sensitive tourist locations and strictly follow government alerts and advisories.

The provincial government is on high alert to deal with any future emergencies because of the persistent threat.
