US President Donald Trump on Wednesday credited Field Marshal Asim Munir with playing a critical role in preventing a war between Pakistan and India.
Speaking at the White House, Trump told reporters that he personally intervened to stop a potential military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and praised Field Marshal Asim Munir for his influence in the process. “I stopped the war between Pakistan and India,” Trump said. “This gentleman—Asim Munir—was extremely influential on Pakistan’s side in making that happen.”

Field Marshal Asim Munir, currently on an official visit to the United States, is scheduled to meet Trump for a luncheon at the White House today (Wednesday) at 1:00 PM local time (10:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time). According to Trump’s public schedule, the two will meet in the Cabinet Room of the White House.
Trump also expressed his admiration for Pakistan. “I love Pakistan,” he said, reiterating his earlier claim of halting hostilities between India and Pakistan. “They were fighting each other, both are nuclear states, and I stopped it.”

During his visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir will also hold meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, according to American media reports.
Trump further commented on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him ,”a fantastic person” and revealed a possible trade deal with India. “I spoke to Modi last night. We’re going to have a trade deal with him,” Trump added.
Mentions of both Pakistan and India have appeared frequently in Trump’s recent statements, following a brief four-day conflict between the two nations from 6 to 10 May that ended in a ceasefire agreement.
