PESHAWAR—The Federal Constitutional Court has sought a formal explanation from Chief Minister Sohail Afridi regarding the formation of the “Imran Khan Release Force” intended to secure the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, directed the chief minister to submit a written response within ten days. The court also issued a notice to the federal government, demanding a report on the matter to ensure that any force remains within constitutional and legal boundaries.

During the proceedings, Justice Aminuddin Khan remarked that establishing a dedicated force for a convicted individual contradicts constitutional principles. “The exercise of state authority must align with the law, and special measures for a single individual are unacceptable,” he noted.
The case stems from a petition filed by a citizen, Zaheer Ahmed, who argued that a force like the Imran Khan Release Force undermines the state structure. Legal experts suggest the outcome of this case will significantly impact the limits of executive power and the use of public resources for political figures
