Police identify afghan nationals behind FC headquarters attack

PESHAWAR – A preliminary police report on Monday’s suicide attack at the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar states that the armed men who entered the compound were shot dead within 30 to 40 metres of the main entrance. The report indicates that the attackers’ objective was to hold personnel hostage inside one of the province’s most heavily guarded security installations.

According to investigators, senior officers and a large number of FC personnel were present in the compound at the time, and a training parade was underway when the assault began. Police officials said the complex was fully cleared after the operation.

The report says the first suicide bomber reached the FC Headquarters on foot, wearing a shawl to conceal his explosives. He detonated himself at the main gate, killing three FC personnel instantly. Moments later, two more attackers entered through the side gate. Both were armed with rifles and carried hand grenades.

Once inside, the pair moved toward the motorcycle stand located to the right of the entrance. They opened fire, prompting an immediate response from FC personnel. According to police, both attackers were killed during the exchange of fire before they could advance deeper into the facility. Their explosives detonated during the confrontation, causing additional damage.

Authorities said the attackers had planned to penetrate further into the headquarters, where senior officials were present, but were stopped at the outer security layer.

Security sources said that investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, including video captured from a nearby building, which shows one of the explosions near the FC Headquarters.

Police and FC units completed a search of the compound, while forensic teams collected evidence from the blast sites. The report has been shared with counter-terrorism officials for further investigation.

A suicide bomber struck the main gate of the FC Headquarters on Main Road, Peshawar Saddar, in the early hours of today, officials confirmed. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion, immediately followed by gunfire from armed assailants who reportedly entered the premises.

Rescue 1122 dispatched six ambulances, a fire vehicle, a disaster response vehicle, and more than 50 personnel to the scene, said Bilal Ahmed Faizi, the agency’s spokesperson. Emergency teams are assisting security forces in managing the situation.

Authorities have sealed off Main Road and FC Road in both directions, warning that traffic will remain suspended until the headquarters is fully secured. Local residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies and avoid the area.

The nature of the blast and the extent of casualties remain unconfirmed, with investigations ongoing. Security sources said a high-alert protocol has been activated across Peshawar.

Officials have stressed that information is still emerging and cautioned against speculation as the operation continues.

Details from Officials:

The capital city police officer Dr. Mian Saeed confirmed that the incident occurred shortly after 8 AM. He stated that two explosions occurred: one at the main gate and another near the motorcycle stand inside the compound. Dr. Saeed added that two attackers were killed in an exchange of fire, while a clearance operation was ongoing.

Officials clarified that three individuals carried out the attack. One detonated an explosive at the main gate, while the other two entered the compound. Security personnel engaged them inside the headquarters, and all three attackers were confirmed dead.

Deputy Commandant FC Javed Iqbal confirmed that three FC personnel lost their lives during the incident. He added that the rapid response of the security staff prevented the attackers from advancing further, averting a potentially larger catastrophe.

Hospital sources reported five people injured, including two FC personnel and three civilians. All injured were transported to hospitals and are receiving medical care and are in stable condition.

Security Measures, Ongoing Operations:

Security officials have secured the area, and the clearance operation continues inside the FC Headquarters compound. Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and cooperate with security personnel.

Affiliates of Jamatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings, though there has been no official confirmation at the time of this report.

Residents in the area have been advised to avoid the premises until the authorities fully clear the site. Traffic on Main Road and FC Road remains suspended, and security forces are maintaining a high-alert status across Peshawar.

Officials stressed that information is still emerging, including the full extent of casualties, damages, and the explosives used, and investigations are ongoing.
