PESHAWAR: The first-ever Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Expo 2025 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa opened with a clear message: public awareness and strong coordination are essential to effectively tackle disasters.
The event was inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction, Aqibullah Khan, who emphasised the province’s commitment to building a region capable of confronting challenges while ensuring safe and sustainable development.

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has repeatedly faced natural disasters. Each time, its people have met these challenges with courage, resilience, and unity,” Aqibullah Khan said. “To manage disasters effectively, public awareness and full coordination are indispensable.”
The expo, held in Peshawar, brought together representatives from government departments, United Nations agencies, the development sector, researchers, educators, and students. The provincial minister praised the Department of Relief, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction for their dedication, saying their meticulous planning and strategic approach made the event possible and successfully gathered all relevant stakeholders under one roof.

During a media briefing, Aqibullah Khan reflected on the recent 2025 floods, noting that the province’s preparedness and rapid response were tested. “Our proactive strategies, early warning systems, effective coordination, and public cooperation played a critical role in reducing major losses,” he said.
The minister reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to investing in technology and modern equipment, strengthening infrastructure, and making climate change mitigation and risk management an integral part of comprehensive provincial development.

He described the expo as a reflection of the vision for a resilient, safe, and smart Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Through this platform, we are bringing together government departments, United Nations agencies, donor organisations, NGOs, INGOs, educational institutions, and technical experts,” he said. “Our goal is not only to manage risks and disasters but also to lay the foundation for development, innovation, and a secure future.”
The expo highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in disaster preparedness and climate adaptation, emphasising that sustainable development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa depends on combining technology, community awareness, and strategic planning.
